5 REASONS WHY WE’RE GOING NUTS OVER THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS
By Oh My Disney
The new movie will put you right into the holiday mood for sure, but there is so much more about it that we just cannot wait to see!
We are so close to the release of Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. With the magical settings and costumes, the themes of fantasy, mystery and whimsy all rolled into one, and a star-studded cast to boot, we just know that it’ll be a magnificent visual feast that will keep us at the edge of our seats. To make sure you know what to look out for, we’ve rounded up five things about it that we’re already going nuts over and cannot wait to see more of when the new movie hits the cinemas!
REASON #1: THE COSTUMES ARE ABSOLUTELY DAZZLING
Clara (played by Mackenzie Foy) wears five key looks in the film, including a spectacular dress that took a crew of 13 a total of 351 hours to make. Just how spectacular is the dress? It features 22 metres of diamante chain, 348 metres of spun gold and silver yarn, 2,500 Swarovski crystals and 1,428 little lights. Yes, it actually glows. We just cannot wait to see this masterpiece and the other beautiful costumes on screen!
REASON #2: GODFATHER DROSSELMEYER’S HOLIDAY BALL
Christmas is the most magical time of the year and we all have that dream of attending the most lavish and fantastical of holiday parties. The holiday ball thrown by Godfather Drosselmeyer (played by Morgan Freeman) is straight out of that dream. Filled with more wreaths, holly, bows and bells than you can imagine, it also features a 15-foot sleigh that holds a string quartet, two giant swans and reindeer. The final touch? An ENORMOUS Christmas tree decorated with real candles.
REASON #3: THE UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FOUR REALMS
It goes without saying that we are beyond excited to see the titular Four Realms unfold. What wonders will we discover in each of them? Fun fact: Each of the Four Realms has a role to play in this magical world. The Land of Snowflakes takes care of ice production and fishing, the Land of Flowers oversees perfume and honey production, and the Land of Sweets prepares a delicious array of treats in their artisan factories. As for the Fourth Realm? You’ll just have to find out for yourself.
REASON #4: IT PAYS HOMAGE TO “THE NUTCRACKER” BALLET
It is not just the music. While the movie isn’t a ballet, the story would not be complete without paying homage to the beloved “The Nutcracker” ballet. To do this, the filmmakers roped in Misty Copeland, who is the principal dancer at the renowned American Ballet Theatre. Copeland will play the ballerina that performs at a grand pageant in the palace. This particular performance portrays the different realms through the art of dance.
REASON #5: THE FORMIDABLE MOUSE KING
A good story needs a good villain and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms has impressive ones, indeed. Like how the stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann and Alexandre Dumas each have a mouse king, so does Disney’s new movie – except far more whimsical. For one, he stands at 9-feet-tall. For two, he isn’t just one mouse. In fact, the Mouse King in The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is made up of 60,000 computer-generated mice. This is one colossal mouse army unlike anything you’ve ever seen on screen.
