All eyes were on fan costumers, particularly those from the Rebel Legion and 501st Legion from around the region, as they paraded the race site with elaborate costumes. Some were so convincingly in-character, we felt like we were right in a STAR WARS movie set!
The founder of 501st Legion, the international Star Wars costuming organisation, Albin Johnson made his first ever appearance in Southeast Asia with pink astromech droid R2-KT. R2-KT is as unique as the story behind her creation. Back in 2004, Albin was inspired to create R2-KT for his late daughter, Katie Johnson who was diagnosed with brain cancer. Inspired by how R2-D2 watched over Padme in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Albin built R2-KT to watch over his Katie. Today, R2-KT is a symbol of Albin’s efforts to spread awareness of paediatric illnesses, and in memory of Katie.
The Dark side showed its swagger when Singapore’s very own STAR WARS tribute band, the Dark Empire, rocked the venue with heady guitar riffs and head-banging beats.
Little Leia, Baby BB-8, Cute Chewies and more owned the runway during the Kids Fashion Parade, wowing the audience with their moves and personality.
Fightsaber Singapore also conducted Kids Jedi Academy Lightsaber workshops for the many young Padawans that attended. Proud, Master Yoda would have been..
The atmosphere of excitement and anticipation was evident as runners prepared for the 10km competitive run.
Presenting to you the top 3 men and women runners who completed the 10km run under 40 minutes! The Force is indeed strong with them. They each walked away with a special trophy designed by Royal Selangor, up to S$1000 cash prize, Singapore Flyer sky dining tickets and a Lenovo Star Wars: Jedi Challenges set!
“Never tell me the odds” – Han Solo
Runners for the non-competitive 5.4km experienced a unique flag-off where the Light and Dark side participants ran in opposite directions, under the night sky lit up with sensational pyrotechnics display.
Runners gleefully sprinted off, many with glowing lightsabers in hand.
The inaugural fully-subscribed 540m Young Jedi Dash was a big hit with parents and kids! It was quite a spectacle seeing the runners’ enthusiastic expressions as they ran as fast as their legs could carry them while still embracing the festive vibe.
