This Month's Heartstrings Club: Bambi

“Love is a song that never ends, life may be swift and fleeting.” Cue the waterworks!

It goes without saying that Bambi is one of the most beautiful animated movies ever made. It becomes even more of a masterpiece when you realise that it was made in a time where computer animation was still decades and decades in the making. The sheer beauty of the scenes, the stirring music and the bittersweet story are reasons why this animated classic – which received three Academy Award nominations, might we add – is perfect for this month’s Heartstrings Club.

Bambi is a beautiful tale of nature. We meet Bambi as a fawn who would one day be the Great Prince of the Forest like his father before him. As the seasons change, from spring to summer, from autumn to winter, and then spring again, Bambi comes to learn about love and loss, friendship and sacrifice.

While that one pivotal moment in the movie is heartbreaking for sure – we’re trying to be as spoiler-free as possible here! – the colours, the near life-like scenes and the music, paired with a harmonious swirl of melancholy and joy, are enough to tug at your heartstrings. That one scene with the Great Prince and Bambi walking in the snow? It’s simultaneously tear-jerking and beautiful. That’s a feat!

If you’re having a cosy night in and your inner nature-lover craves a visual feast with heart, take a go at Bambi. (By the way, Bambi celebrates its 76th anniversary this week!)
